Mustangs
I can’t believe it’s 2010
Remember all crazy things we did back then
Do you still have that old Mustang
We put in a ditch out by Montrose
The kids who wrecked that car are grown
No time to think about whats come and gone
But I still think about those days
Probably a lot more than it shows
Chorus:
We were a wild unbroken herd
Moving fast and seldom deterred
Until we got caught somewhere along the way
Between sixteen and middle age
Between free spirit and wage slave
Maybe we’ll ride those Mustangs again one day
We’d park out beside Old Cash Road
With whatever girls we could get to go
Sit on the hood and drink too much
And wonder why they never believed our lines
Or we’d drive past my uncles farm
Where the trailer park girls would keep us warm
At least that’s what we told the guys
We were studs, if only in our minds
Chorus:
We were a wild unbroken herd
Moving fast and seldom deterred
Until we got caught somewhere along the way
Between sixteen and middle age
Between free spirit and wage slave
Maybe we’ll ride those Mustangs again one day
Bridge:
The past chases us like horseflies
Stings us from behind and gets in our eyes
But I can still hear the sound of hooves
Horses more swift than the evening wolves
The days of your youth crawl on by
Then you hit thirty and time starts to fly
Before long you start losing touch
One day you notice you’re by yourself
Chorus:
We were a wild unbroken herd
Moving fast and seldom deterred
Until we got caught somewhere along the way
Between sixteen and middle age
Between free spirit and wage slave
Maybe we’ll ride those Mustangs again one day
