The World’s Biggest Fool

The World’s Biggest Fool

Well you say that we are through
That there’s nothing I can do
You’ve found another man
And you’re gonna leave
But darlin’ before you go
There’s one thing I want to know
Tell me the truth, just this once
Did you ever really love me

Chorus:
I must be the world’s biggest fool
To have ever believed in you
I thought forever meant forever
When I guess it only meant a while
Now you say you’re leaving me
Soon everyone will see
I’m the world’s biggest fool

I’ll pretend that I’m OK
That I’m better off this way
Now that the girl I love
Loves another guy
I’ll try to stand up straight
I’ll put on a happy face
But it will be just an act
Cause baby even fools can cry

Bridge:
Well I’ve been hurt before
But this one hurts a whole lot more
I don’t know if I’ll make it through
No this ain’t my first heartbreak
It’s just more than I can take
It’s killing me to be a fool for you

Chorus:
I must be the world’s biggest fool
To have ever believed in you
I thought forever meant forever
When I guess it only meant a while
Now you say you’re leaving me
Soon everyone will see
I’m the world’s biggest fool

Soon everyone will see
I’m the world’s biggest fool

Tangled Vines

Tangled Vines

Twisting around
The trees in our front yard
Reaching for the sky
Where all the giants are

Spinning so fast
Round and around we go
Climbing up so high
See the world below

Chorus:
Vines Tangled vines
That bear the bitter grape
And make the sweetest wine
I’ll always be yours
You’ll always be mine
We’re just vines
Tangled vines

Falling so hard
It’s such a long way down
Aching for your touch
From here on the ground

Growing so close
Like kudzu by the road
Fragile from afar
Tougher than you know

Chorus:
Vines Tangled vines
That bear the bitter grape
And make the sweetest wine
I’ll always be yours
You’ll always be mine
We’re just vines
Tangled vines

She’s Grown Up Sad

She’s Grown Up Sad

It was last Christmas eve
I was at the Walmart
A time for last minute shopping
Though I had just started

I saw my high school girl
Working the check out line
It was the first time I’d seen her
In a very long time

Chorus:
She’s grown up sad
She’s a wife and a mother
She can barely recall
All the good times we had
She’s got a husband
She says he don’t love her
I think it’s a pity
That a girl that pretty
Has grown up so sad

When she was seventeen
She could sure stop a clock
But now she’s got so many clocks
It’s hard to make them stop

She married at twenty
And she tried to love him
He gave her something to hope for
She gave him three children

Chorus:
She’s grown up sad
She’s a wife and a mother
She can barely recall
All the good times we had
She’s got a husband
She says he don’t love her
I think it’s a pity
That a girl that pretty
Has grown up so sad

Her friends all moved away
After graduation
But she stayed in the same small town
in a tough situation

I asked if she recalled
The time she spent with me
She turned away but not before
A tear ran down her cheek

Chorus:
She’s grown up sad
She’s a wife and a mother
She can barely recall
All the good times we had
She’s got a husband
She says he don’t love her
I think it’s a pity
That a girl that pretty
Has grown up so sad

Rain Dancer

Rain Dancer

You call me rain
You call me rain
When you know I’m as dry as a bone
I’m just a cloud in your eyes

You take me back
You take me back
Indian giver give me back my love
You’re the lightning in my skies

Chorus:
I never knew you were a rain dancer
I never thought you would leave
Clouds are only happy when it’s raining
Rain dancer come back and dance for me

The weather breaks
The weather breaks
And the sun is peering through the clouds
Colors of silver and gray

The fog rolls in
The fog rolls in
Just when we thought the skies were clearing
Oh these are such stormy days

Chorus:
I never knew you were a rain dancer
I never thought you would leave
Clouds are only happy when it’s raining
Rain dancer come back and dance for me

Makris

Makris

It looks like Makris is leaving
She’s gonna check out for a while
I’ve seen it coming for some time
Staying put just isn’t her style

I heard her talking on the phone
I could tell she was making plans
When a woman’s made up her mind
It’s sometimes hard to understand

Chorus:
So I guess I’ll never know
Why she thinks she has to go
But if she leaves I wish her well
Oh, Makris I’ll never tell

I bet she’ll go to New Braunfels
Maybe get a job at Gruene Hall
She’ll rent a place without a phone
So she won’t ever have to call

And on the first sunny weekend
She’ll float on down the Guadalupe
Surrounded by the sacred waters
In a big old black innertube

Chorus:
So I guess I’ll never know
Why she thinks she has to go
But if she leaves I wish her well
Oh, Makris I’ll never tell

Bridge:
Maybe when she reaches shore
She’ll think about me
Or maybe she’ll follow that river
All the way to the sea

Chorus:
So I guess I’ll never know
Why she thinks she has to go
But if she leaves I wish her well
Oh, Makris I’ll never tell

Losing Hand

Losing Hand

My baby is a psychic
She works those toll free lines
Fishing for credit card numbers
Talking sweet and reading minds

Our phone rings all day and night
She reads the cards so well
I’ve never believed in all that stuff
I wonder if she can tell

Chorus:
I told her
You can read tea leaves
Turn up a tarot card
There are messages in everything
To see ’em you don’t have to look hard
Tell me my future, forgive me my past
Save yourself if you can
My second sight is telling me
We’ve got a losing hand

My ex-wife was a gambler
She bet on me and lost
We blinked when the chips were down
We got cashed out at great cost

But she landed on her feet
The way some folks do
I’ve never been quite that lucky
I bet my heart, lost it too

Chorus:
She told me
You can read tea leaves
Turn up a tarot card
There are messages in everything
To see ’em you don’t have to look hard
Tell me my future, forgive me my past
Save yourself if you can
My second sight is telling me
We’ve got a losing hand

Bridge:
I’ve been drawing bad cards
To an inside straight
The queen of hearts left me
And my future’s not so great

Funny as the Time

Funny as the Time

I was thinking back the other night
To all the tears we shed
And all the times we tried to talk
When not a word was said

We always thought we could talk it out
Somehow we never did
I guess we thought the only safe heart
Is one that you keep hid

Chorus:
Now it all seems so funny
As funny as the time
That lies between the here and now
And what got left behind
The years stretch out beside us
Like some unspoken line
From a life that could have been
As funny as the time

But all the years that have come and gone
Have helped to ease the pain
And when I think of you I smile
I hope you do the same

Bridge:
I used to love the way your smile
Danced across your face
My mind keeps waltzing back to a time
That can never be replaced

Chorus:
Now it all seems so funny
As funny as the time
That lies between the here and now
And what got left behind
The years stretch out beside us
Like some unspoken line
From a life that could have been
As funny as the time

Foxfire

Foxfire (no MP3 available)

She wore a sun dress
Covered with flowers
And she smelled so sweet and wild
I couldn’t have been any higher
On my foxfire

We stayed out all night
Talking about life
I bet it all on her smile
I lost my bet at the wire
On my foxfire

Chorus:
If you play with fire
You’re gonna get burned
I wear a heart shaped cuff link
For every lesson I never learned

If we’d had more time
I’d be in her heart
Like I was for those few hours
With my foxfire

Chorus:
If you play with fire
You’re gonna get burned
I wear a heart shaped cuff link
For every lesson I never learned

I will never tire
Of my foxfire

Cartoon Girls

Cartoon Girls

Popeye always got the girl
Cause he ate his vegetables
Me and Bluto got beat up
And felt sorry for ourselves

Chorus:
I’m stuck in a Saturday morning world
I wish I could find me a cartoon girl
Somebody draw me a picture
I don’t want to be alone
Oh where have all the cartoon girls gone

I named my dog Scooby Doo
Cause he was a loser’s friend
He doesn’t mind my long hair
And the stubble on my chin

Chorus:
I’m stuck in a Saturday morning world
I wish I could find me a cartoon girl
Somebody draw me a picture
I don’t want to be alone
Oh where have all the cartoon girls gone

I could love Veronica
But you know she’s Archie’s girl
When folks think you’re a Jughead
It can be a cold hard world

Chorus:
I’m stuck in a Saturday morning world
I wish I could find me a cartoon girl
Somebody draw me a picture
I don’t want to be alone
Oh where have all the cartoon girls gone

Wilma has a heart of gold
But I’m still a Betty man
If I was the Professor
You know I’d choose Mary Ann

Chorus:
I’m stuck in a Saturday morning world
I wish I could find me a cartoon girl
Somebody draw me a picture
I don’t want to be alone
Oh where have all the cartoon girls gone

Buck Dancing

Buck Dancing

Everyone is lonely
Even if only
When they’re alone

My love runs from shadows
Not that it matters
After she’s gone

Chorus:
She’s the queen of the buck dancers
And she can really move
I’m searching for the right steps
But I don’t have a clue

I’m so tired of thinking
That’s why I’m drinking
More than I should

In my dreams she’s happy
To slow dance with me
It feels so good

Chorus:
She’s the queen of the buck dancers
And she can really move
I’m searching for the right steps
But I don’t have a clue

Bridge:
This ain’t the same old shuffle
Where you glide to and fro
If you want to be a buck dancer
You’ve got to bend your legs and go

I can’t keep up with her
God I sure miss her
How she can dance

Chorus:
She’s the queen of the buck dancers
And she can really move
I’m searching for the right steps
But I don’t have a clue

Bridge Reprise:
This ain’t the same old shuffle
Where you glide to and fro
If you want to be a buck dancer
You’ve got to bend your legs and go

It’s an end of the line dance
There’s too much heel and toe
It’s time to change partners
It’s the end of the road Chorus:
She’s the queen of the buck dancers
And she can really move
I’m searching for the right steps
But I don’t have a clue
