Old Letters and Photographs
I found an old picture of you
Stuffed in the back of my desk drawer
You were sitting so pretty in a lawn chair
Looking just like a movie star
And sitting right beside you
Is a man I once called friend
How I wish I didn’t know now
The things I didn’t know then
Chorus:
Now they’re just old letters and photographs
Memories of way back when
You and I were man and wife
And he was my best friend
I still have the goodbye letter
You wrote me on the day you left
It said you loved some things about me
But you just couldn’t stand the rest
Your leaving took me by surprise dear
But I resolved to make things right
At least ’till I saw you with him
The very next Saturday night
Chorus:
Now they’re just old letters and photographs
Memories of way back when
You and I were man and wife
And he was my best friend
Bridge:
The paper says you just got married
I guess you’re on your honeymoon
Me, I’m three sheets to the wind
And it’s not even noon
These relics I keep in my pocket
Are the only things I have to show
For the life we once had
A long, long time ago
Chorus:
Now they’re just old letters and photographs
Memories of way back when
You and I were man and wife
And he was my best friend
