Mary Goes Around
When we were kids
We used to go to the carnival
On the outskirts of town
Sometimes I’d lose Mary in the Fun House
And I’d always find her
On the merry-go-round
When we grew up
The carnival stopped coming to town
It was a time of change
When I married Mary we had big plans
But the harder I tried
The more things stayed the same
Chorus:
Mary goes around and around
But I know she’ll always come back
Mary says she loves me
I wish I still believed that
And I don’t know how much longer
I can keep my feet on the ground
Cause it’s my world that spins
While Mary goes around and around
We’re older now
And I find that I’m tired of watching
Mary spin out of control
But I don’t know which would hurt me more
Letting Mary go around
Or just letting Mary go
Bridge:
In my sleep I can hear the barker yell
Who among you will ride the carousel
Around and around and around you go
Where it will stop nobody knows
Chorus:
Mary goes around and around
But I know she’ll always come back
Mary says she loves me
I wish I still believed that
And I don’t know how much longer
I can keep my feet on the ground
Cause it’s my world that spins
While Mary goes around and around
