George Cue
When I got home today I found
A letter waiting to bring me down
My tears stained the words my baby wrote
She said baby you were born to roam
But I’m homesick so I’m going home
Back to people and places I know
Chorus:
This house is old and needs work but it will do
Those things I can fix, but I can’t change you
You can fix a house with wood, nails and paint
But you can’t make someone be something they ain’t
I’ll make this house strong and noble and true
And I’ll be a good neighbor, just like George Cue
She talked about the house she leased
Past Eutsler’s farm down the road a piece
Just outside the town where we grew up
She said you can have those city lights
I need to see the stars in the sky
I guess leaving home was just too tough
Chorus:
This house is old and needs work but it will do
Those things I can fix, but I can’t change you
You can fix a house with wood, nails and paint
But you can’t make someone be something they ain’t
I’ll make this house strong and noble and true
And I’ll be a good neighbor, just like George Cue
She said the neighbors all came by
And that George Cue said to tell me hi
I miss George, he is a friend of mine
She said he brought her some squash and corn
And some firewood to keep her house warm
With neighbors like George she’ll be just fine
Bridge:
I remember all the fun things we did
When he was a young man I was a kid
He taught me how to catch a bass and be a man
And that a coward runs away
While a brave man makes a stand
Chorus:
This house is old and needs work but it will do
Those things I can fix, but I can’t change you
You can fix a house with wood, nails and paint
But you can’t make someone be something they ain’t
I’ll make this house strong and noble and true
And I’ll be a good neighbor, just like George Cue
