Another song I cowrote with Joe Middleton. A guy I used to work across the table from on real estate transactions used to call really screwed up situations “goat rodeos.” I started using the phrase, Joe heard it, and this song was born.
My key isn’t working
I know that’s a bad sign
But I don’t even care
What I did wrong this time
Maybe it’s the whiskey
Or staying out all night
If I can’t change her mind
I’ll have to prove her right
Find some broken angel
Full of liquor and rage
Let her show me the way
To feel good on a bad day
We’ll find us a bottle
And some bridges to burn
A race to the bottom
Everyone gets a turn
Chorus:
The sun’s coming up
I’m feeling down
Like the butt of a joke
That’s been going around
I’d pull it together
If I knew where to start
But it’s a goat rodeo
And I’m just doing my part
I’m alright being wrong
Don’t want to wait and see
If she can get over
All of my deficiencies
It’s falling apart
|I don’t know what to do
Even if I did
Would I really want to
Bridge:
So it’s one for the money
Two for the show
Three to get ready
For this goat rodeo
Chorus:
The sun’s coming up
I’m feeling down
Like the butt of a joke
That’s been going around
I’d pull it together
If I knew where to start
But it’s a goat rodeo
And I’m just doing my part
