One of the first halfway decent songs I wrote. Caroline was a trainer who came down to Cheraw to train the rollerskate waitresses at the Sonic. They satyed at the beautiful Valerie Hotel, just outside town. I had to take poetic license and change it to a local pub. Not much rhymes with Sonic.

Tonight I’ll see Caroline
Going out with some friends of mine
She bartends at the local pub
I’ll buy my friends drinks
Cause I’m in love

Beore we met she’d heard my name
Thought country boys were all the same
Just bad sideburns and too long hair
Noisy trucks to drive
From here to there

Chorus:
Caroline
Maybe we can take a ride
Caroline
Can I be with you tonight

I work at the textile mill
Double shifts for the extra bills
But every night when my shift ends
I’m always off to
See her again

I’ll sit at the bar and talk
Keep her company ’till she gets off
I try to tell her how I feel
I’m not just in love
I’m head over heels

Chorus:
Caroline
Maybe we can take a ride
Caroline
Can I be with you tonight

Bridge:
I don’t mind those double shifts
Cause it won’t always be like this
It’s only a matter of time you see
Till Caroline agrees to marry me

Chorus:
Caroline
Maybe we can take a ride
Caroline
Can I be with you tonight
