Probably the 5th version of a song I initially wrote back in the 90s about a friend of mine’s dog. Said friend wasn’t crazy about me memorializing that his dog had gone feral, so I rewrote it to be a bit ambiguous. As far as I know Maggie the dog never heard it.
I found some tracks
Behind my house
A sure fire sign
Wildlife about
You call Steve
And I’ll call Jeff
There’s something here
Scares me to death
OK I lied
I’m not that scared
It’s just Maggie
With her teeth all bared
I’ve been busy
She’s been bored
She’s gone feral
In my back yard
Chorus:
There’s something wild
Behind those trees
Is that my best friend
Or a feral beast
She used to let me pet her
We had such a ball
Now she won’t come
No matter how I call
When it gets dark
She starts to howl
Calling my name
With a throaty growl
I know she’s pissed
What to do
Neighbors are calling
And it’s almost two
I go outside
Shine my flashlight
What do I see
Two silver eyes
Here in the dark
There’s no doubt
She’s got me cornered
There’s no way out
Chorus:
There’s something wild
Behind those trees
Is that my best friend
Or a feral beast
She used to let me pet her
We had such a ball
Now she won’t come
No matter how I call
